Gina Fernando
Intern
Gina Fernando has always been driven by a desire to help others, especially in the medical field. Her journey into mental health began after a personal experience in 2013, following the birth of her second child, when she faced debilitating anxiety for the first time. This life-changing event sparked a passion for mental health.
Gina became a registered nurse in 2015. She later earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree and spent three years as a primary care provider at a community-based clinic. Today, she serves as a nurse practitioner specializing in psychiatric medication management in an outpatient setting. Her areas of expertise include postpartum mental health, as well as working with patients who suffer from OCD and anxiety.
Gina’s experience includes internships with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), where she gained valuable insights, particularly into ADHD treatments for pediatric patients. Her long-term goals include continuing outpatient medication management and possibly expanding her practice into inpatient care. Ultimately, Gina hopes to establish her own practice one day.
Outside of work, Gina is an avid traveler, taking trips with her family as often as four times a year to explore new cultures and parts of the world. She enjoys listening to podcasts like Mel Robbins and Shrink Chicks, and her favorite book is “No Mud, No Lotus” by Thich Nhat Hanh.
